Keep Your Pavers Pretty All Winter Long

Pavers are beautiful all year round, and look great on your patio or driveway.  You need to remember, though, that keeping them beautiful requires that you care for them during the off season, namely winter. The winter can be pretty harmful to your pavers, and do a lot of damage if you don’t take care of them.

Here’s how to protect a paver patio in winter:

  • Using a sealer can provide the pavers with increased protection. Be sure to brush both the surface of the pavers and their exposed sides. Be sure to re-brush them once the shine vanishes.
  • Don’t use salt or salt-based products on your pavers. Salt contains moisture that can seep into the surface of the pavers and then refreeze. If it happens often enough, this process can cause a lot of damage to your pavers. Instead, either use something with no salt or sprinkle sand for increased traction.
  • Use a plastic shovel instead of a metal shovel to clear your patio. Metal can scratch both your pavers and the seal used to protect them. You can also use a snow blower to care for your pavers.
  • Clean your patio when you get the chance to remove all traces of substances that can damage your pavers.
